Do I need a security clearance before commencing a new role?
It will depend on the position and the security clearance level required. Employers will specify if an appropriate clearance is required before commencing the role, or if they are interested in selecting the most suitable applicant and allowing them to complete the clearance process alongside their employment duties. The security clearance is simply – albeit not the simplest qualification to obtain! – a means of ensuring the employee possesses the traits that are deemed integral in a security context. These traits are: honesty, trustworthiness, maturity, tolerance, resilience and loyalty. While some roles may offer flexibility with security clearances, others may involve working with too many classified resources that the successful candidate will need to hold a valid accreditation.

Recruiters will certainly be impressed with your CV if they can see you have already begun the process of obtaining your clearance, and will take it into consideration.
